Whitteker Gets Top Five Finish at Mohawk Raceway on Friday Night in 2012 Season Debut; Top Ten Result at Brockville on Saturday Night

After a couple weeks in recovery mode from appendix surgery, Luke Whitteker was back on the track this past weekend with events at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night and Brockville Speedway on Saturday.

At Mohawk Raceway, Whitteker started the night with a fourth place finish in his qualifying heat, after starting in sixth. This gave him the 13th starting spot for the 40 lap opening night main event. Luke was very patient in the early laps, moving up to 11th after a caution on lap eight. With 10 laps remaining, he was up to seventh, and had one of the fast cars on the track. As the final laps counted down, Whitteker moved into the top five, and when the race was over, he was in fourth place.

“It was a good way to start the year. We had a good run here tonight”, says Whitteker after the race. “Mohawk is a great track, and the competition here is really good”.

On Saturday night, the Whitteker Motorsports team traveled to Brockville Speedway for their season opener. A third place finish in the qualifier put Whitteker in the eighth position to start the 30 lap feature. The dry slick track conditions made it difficult to pass, and by the end of the race, Whitteker had finished in 10th place.  [read more]
